Continuing my Black Widow Coat

Today I have been continuing to manufacture my Black Widow Coat.

I started by inserting the sleeves.

One problem that I had was that under one arm the seam didn't match but after another attempt I was able to fix it.

Also the top of the sleeve was lying slightly weird so I had to fix this too.

Finally I constructed the collar stand and I attached it to the collar.

One addition to the coat was to add a row of top stitching to the lining of the pocket to hold the orange fabric down.

I am really pleased with the finish of the pocket now and I am pleased that I decided to add this stitching.

The Next Stages of my Black Widow Coat

On Friday I continued to manufacture my Black Widow Coat in final fabric.

I told you about a problem I was having when inserting my pocket.  Well I managed to solve it but paying close attention to the corners when sewing the seam.

I am really pleased with the finish of the pocket and I think that the extra time that I spent on this particular part was worth it as the finish is a lot better.

Next I constructed the top side of the collar and I am pleased with how the seam lines meet.

Next I had to insert the top stitching; I am really pleased with the effect that the orange has against the black and I feel that it adds a needed pop of colour to the garment.

When I was closing the sleeve one problem I had was that the seam lines didn't meet but after a few attempts I was able to get it right.

I am really pleased with this garment so far and I am excited to see the finished coat with the lining inserted.

Continuing my Black Widow Coat

Yesterday I told you about starting to manufacture my Black Widow Coat in my final fabric, well today I have been continuing with this.

I finished constructing the panels.

Eventually I had two fronts and a back fully constructed.

I then constructed my pockets.

I constructed my sleeves with the facings and the retaining row.

Next I added the facing to the lining.

I then inserted the sleeves into my lining.

Finally I started to insert the pockets into the side seams.  This is where I started to experience some problems as a small hole appeared but I will update you on how this goes tomorrow.

Starting my Black Widow Coat in my Final Fabric

After cutting out all my pattern pieces yesterday and spending most of the morning today overlocking all the pieces I was finally able to start to construct my Black Widow Coat.

I am using a wool mix from http://www.leonsfabrics.co.uk/ for this garment.

I started my putting together the panels in horizontal strips that will be going on the front.

As we spent the afternoon focusing on out Computers brief this was all I got done but tomorrow I hope to sew all the panels together and complete the top stitching.
