The Design Principles

The first part of the brief was to research the Design Principles and find out what they are.  So here they are:

1. Balance

2. Emphasis/Focal Point
3. Illusion
4. Texture

5. Value
6. Scale/Proportion
7. Rhythm
8. Unity

New Year, New Brief

Well today I started my second year at college and with it came a brand new set of briefs and a brand new fashion show to aim for.

We started our first brief of the year which is about Design Principles in Art and Design.  I read this brief and realized that I didn't really know a lot about the areas that we will be covering and knew that I would have to understand what is meant before I could actually start to approach it.

By the end of the college day, after research and discussions, I understand what the brief means and feel that I can start to progress.

How has your day been?

Summer Homework

Before we finished college we were set summer homework, we had to go to at least 3 exhibitions (which I have told you about in previous posts), and we had to fill an a4 sketchbook with different forms of research into different things that have inspired us; one of these could eventually be the theme for our collection at the end of the year.

The first thing that I was inspired by was a piece of at work from the MMU exhibition; the artist had created different textures on  pieces of wood.  This inspired me to look into different textures with in the trees and on the bark; so I took a trip to Marbury Park.

Here is a few of my favourites...

Sudley House

While in Liverpool we also visited Sudley House.  To add to the fact that we got lost on our way around Liverpool in the first place we also got lost on our way to Sudley House, luckly we managed to turn up at the correct place and we also saw Craig Vye on the way so I think its fair to say the 'detour' wasn't such a bad thing.

I found this place really interesting as I was able to see the house how it would have been when George Holt lived there aswell as the Costume drama exhibition that is currently there.

Here are the pictures I took.

Walker Art Gallery

While we were at Liverpool we visited the Walker Art gallery.  I wanted to visit here due to the exhibition of glass dresses by Diana Dias-Leāo.

Here are the pictures from the exhibition and a few other pieces that I liked.
