Fabric Sale

I know its a bit late but I thought that would just share with you my adventures to Macclesfield to visit a fabric sale that was going on at adamley factory.

I have to admit I was slightly disappointed when I arrived as it wasn't what I expected and there wasn't a lot of variety.
But after having a good look around I found 3 rolls that I was very pleased with and felt that they were cheap.

Paul Costelloe

While looking through the shows from London fashion week to seee what trends are coming through I came across a esigner who's collection I love.  The designer is Paul Costelloe.  I love the silouettes of his pieces and the coulours and fabrics he has used look amazing.  This is definately somebody that I will look at in the future for inspiration.

I would definately suggest looking at his full collection.

I have taken thes pictures from http://www.londonfashionweek.co.uk/designers_catwalk.aspx?designerid=242&SeasonID=23#pic0 and his full collection can be found here too.

More Samples

Here is the second set of fabric that I have received.  They aren't samples but they fit into the brief as I have bought them and saved them from going into landfill sites.  I think that this is a really good thing as it means that people who can use small amounts of fabric can get them at a cheaper price which also saves them from being thrown away.

Sustainable Fabric Samples

For the new brief the main topic is Sustainability.  One of the tasks is to research into sustainable fabrics and to collect samples.  The types of fabric I am looking for are organic, recycled and ethnically made fabrics.  I contacted a number of companies to ask for samples and on Friday my first set of samples arrived.

These samples are from http://www.organiccotton.biz/ I did have to pay for them but for the amount I received they were very reasonable and include a wide variety and therefore would give me a lot of choice if deciding what to use for a final garment.

Do you know any sustainable fabric companies?

Quarry Bank Mill

Today me, my mum and my nanna took a trip to the Quarry Bank Mill to take a look around the mill, apprentice house and gardens.  I thought that it was a great way to step back in time and see how people made cotton and other fabrics in the past and how inventors managed to adapt and create machines that were quicker and more efficient.

Photography wasn't aloud throughout parts of the site but here are some of the pictures that I took throughout the day.

A trip to London

A few weeks ago I went on a trip to London with college.  While we were here we went to the new designers exhibition and then visited Soho to look around the fabric shops and collect samples.

The new designers exhibition was showing the best from different universities all around the country and being able to see all of this work in one place really put into perspective the individuality of each student and piece of work that is created.

When we had finished at the exhibition we went to Soho and started to collect samples from the fabric shops, I found this experience really useful and it has made me more likely to visit again .

Have you visited the fabric shops in Soho?
