Fittings Week Day 4

Today has been the 4th day of fittings week and I was able to have my last two fittings.

Before my first fitting of the day I was able to carry on inserting the lining into my Huntsman dress.  I attached the lining at the armholes, then I inserted it into the zip and finally I hemmed both the lining and the shell.  I was then able to attach the chain shoulder piece to the loops of ribbon along the neckline.  I am really pleased with the garment and I feel that I have been able to finish it to a high standard.

I then had my first fitting where I was able to fit my Funnelweb Outfit.  I will have to take the skirt in quite a lot but the top fitted exactly how I wanted it too.

After that I was able to fit my Black Widow Coat to my model.  I am really pleased as it fits well so I just need to finish it.

After my fittings I was able to finish my shorts.  I decided to change the waist as the elastic that I used for my toile and planned to use for my final garments didn't have a very nice effect so after some advice I decided to finish the edge with a folded piece of the lycra.  I am pleased with this effect.

On the second pair to go with my black widow coat I decided to keep the waist the same length as with the seam allowance as they fitted nicely the height that they were on the model.

I then started to finish the edge of the Black Widow Vest using black satin bias binding.

I am really pleased that I was able to finish all of my fittings as I now have tomorrow and Monday to finish all of my garments.

Fittings Week Day 3

Today I have spent the day trying to finish the garments that I have fitted.

First I bias bound the edge of the last piece of chiffon and I pinned them together on the bottom of the dress.

I then noticed that hey weren't lying at the right length all the way around which I believe is due to the fact that the fabric will be on the bias a certain parts of the piece so the will distort.  To solve this I went round and pulled the pieces of fabric into place so the all they in order.

I then had my third fitting of the week where I am very pleased to say that my dress fitted perfectly, so I will just have to insert the lining, hem the garment and attach the chain shoulder piece.

I then attached the bottom piece and inserted a retaining row but after I did this I noticed some tucks in the top layer which I will have to unpick to get rid of.

I then stared to insert the lining into my Huntsman Dress.

Fittings Week Day 2

As I had fitted the two outfits yesterday I was able to continue to get them completely finished before fashion show week.

First I patterned for the bottom part of the Tarantula Dress.

Then I cut out the pieces but I realized that I didn't have enough fabric to cut out all four so I decided that I would just include three of these layers.

I then finished the bottom edge of the pieces using bias binding. I ran out of bias binding after the second piece so I will have to wait until tomorrow to do the third.

I am really pleased with this finish and I think that it gives a really nice contrast against the chiffon.

Then I hemmed the Orb Weaver Shirt.  I had a few problems with this as the fabric slipped in the machine which made it twist.  To solve this I plan to unpick it and then tack it down in order to stop it from slipping.

I then attached the hook and bars to the waistband of my Orb Weaver Skirt.

I hope to get these amendments finished tomorrow as I will soon have more to do.

Fittings Week Day 1

Today has been the first day of fittings week and after one of of my models dropping out and another that none of my outfits would fit I finally was able to fit the two outfits that I was scheduled to fit today.

First I fitted the Tarantula Dress as this was the dress that I had the most work to do on after fitting it.  Luckily I only had to take it in slightly at the bottom as the rest of it fitted to the model.

Then I attached two chains to pull the sides of the dress back in order to create a nice fit at the front.

Then I created the choker to the measurement of the models neck.

I was then able to fit my second outfit, the Orb Weaver Outfit.  I ended up using one of the 1st year students Bobbie Hudson and luckily the whole outfit fit her perfectly.  So I now just need to hem the shirt and finish the shorts using the coverstitch machine.
