Complete Portfolio of Illustration Boards

Here is my Portfolio of illustration boards which was one of the tasks for the current sketchbook brief.  I feel that you can see the connection between them all and my customer comes across in them as well.

Third and Final Set of Illustration Boards

First of all I would like to apologize for the lack of posts recently and I hope you all had a great Christmas and New Year.

As you may remember for my current sketchbook brief I have to create 3 pairs of illustration boards I have posted about my previous 2 sets and would like to share with you my third and final set.

For these boards I have used watercolour, pencil and charcoal which is a mixture of the media I used for my previous boards.

I feel that these aren't as strong as my other sets but show progression as media with the addition of colour.

Second Set of Illustration Boards

You may remember my previous post on my first pair of design boards, if you did you will remember that for my current brief I have to create 6 illustration boards in three pairs.  Here is my second pair.  For these I have used watercolour and pencil to create this delicate effect and textures.

I am pleased with these boards and feel that both pairs work as a set as well.

My First Pair Of Illustration Boards

For this current brief one of the aims is to create 6 illustration boards.  We are creating them in pairs and I have now created my first pair. I have used Charcoal and Chalk to create this and I really like the effect of the media.

The next step is to cut out the illustration and glue it onto a mount board.  I have done it on paper first as this helps to keep the boards clean.

Chris Duncan

Another contemporary Illustrator that I have looked at for the current brief is Chris Duncan.

Throughout his work Chris Duncan has used various media including stitch, pencil and paint.  I feel that his work portrays a busy, abstract mood through the dots of pain and the amount of things that he includes.  Personally my favourite element of his work is the clusters of dots as I feel that create a really interesting effect that I also used in abstract artwork.  If I were to take any elements of his work through to my own I would use both the dots and the stitching as I feel that they create an interesting texture and perspective to his work.  I feel that his work would fit into the ready to wear market.

Peter Clark

Another contemporary illustrator that I have looked at for the current brief is Peter Clark.

Throughout his work Peter Clark has used collage consistently, this has become his trademark.  I feel that his work portrays a playful and childlike mood this is through the media that he uses and how they look like they could be dolls dresses.  Personally my favourite part of his work is the texture that he creates through folding the paper.  If I were to take any element of his work through to my own it would be the way that he creates volume and texture through folding paper and the way that he uses different types of paper to create his pieces.  I think that his work would fit into the ready to wear market.

Danny Roberts

So now that the first brief of the year has finished we have started a new one.  This one is illustration, anyone has has read my previous illustration posts will know that I'm not the biggest fan of illustration, but to my surprise is enjoying it so far.

The first contemporary illustrator that I have looked at is Danny Roberts.

Throughout his work Danny Roberts has used various media including pen, watercolour, and photoshop.  I feel that his work can depict different moods feelings but the one that I feel runs through his work is Elegance this has been created through the poses and the media that he uses.  Personally my favourite element of his pieces is the way that he is able to recreate on image, magazine cover or photograph in a way that still has his own style and elegance included.   If I were the take any element of his work through to my own I would use the way he recreates an image and experiment with this on backgrounds and poses when creating my own work.  I feel that his work fits in with the high end of high street market.

Illustration of Golden Ration garment

As you may have realized by now illustration isn't exactly my strongest area but I have created an illustration of the paper garment that I created and I am actually pleased with it.

Another Illustration

I thought that I would share with you another illustration that I have done of a dress that another student made for the fashion show.  This time I have combined pencil with collage to create the mixed media piece.

I sounds weird but I feel as though I have made a breakthrough with my drawing skills and am finally starting to enjoy it and create pieces that I am quite proud of.

Paper Dress Illustration

At the beginning of July I attended one of the college taster days to help out.  During this day the students were asked to create paper dresses on the mannequin (something I am familiar with as I had to do it during the first week of college).  I thought I would share with you the illustration I made of one of the groups pieces.

Here is the piece I have illustrated.
 This is my pencil illustration.

I added charcoal and watercolour to the illustration to add depth.
