Finishing my Orb Weaver Skirt.

You may remember awhile ago I told you about starting to toile my Orb Weaver skirt.

Well here it is finished (finally) after a lot of time, effort and one heart sinking moment (where it all got tangled).

I am really pleased with the result and feel that he chains have created a really nice effect.

Toiling my Orb Weaver Skirt

I have now started to toile my Orb Weaver skirt.  As I lowered the waistband on the shorts I had to choose a shaped waistband for this toile.

I used the method 'modeling on the stand' to pattern for the waistband.

I then constructed the waistband.

I started to attach the chains in spiderweb style.

Finishing my Funnelweb Skirt Toile

Today I have been carrying on with my Funnelweb Skirt toile.

I inserted a centred zip into the back.

I was pleased with the bottom of the zip but the top part looked a bit untidy.  I would have to watch out for this on my final garment. Due to the untidiness of the zip I am now considering using a invisible zip instead but this would mean loosing the top stitching.

I then did the top stitching.

I the added the hem facing and did the top stitching.

I am pleased with the result of the toile and feel that the silhouette is very flattering, I will reconsider the zip to make sure that the garment looks the best that it can.

This is the whole outfit together.  There is a few adjustments to be made but overall I am pleased.

Toileing My Funnelweb Skirt

On Friday I started to construct my toile for my Funnelweb Skirt.

I inserted the darts.
 Sewed up the side seams.
I constructed the bottom panel using interfacing on half of it to decide which effect I like the best.

Then I sewed part way up the centre back seam; leaving the gap for the zip.

I preferred the effect that the interfacing had on the hem of the skirt so this is the method that I will use in my final garment.

Here I sampled different ways that I could attach the ribbon that will attach the chain onto the skirt.

This is the way that I will be attaching the ribbon to my skirt because I prefer the way that the ribbon lies and I believe that it looks neater.

I will also attach jump rings to the ribbon which will make it easier the attach the chain.

I then marked off where I want to attach the chain.

I then made up my waistband.

I attached ribbon at the points where I want to attach the chain.  I ended up attaching the ribbon to the skirt rather than the waistband as it is easier overall.

The next step is to insert the zip.

I am really pleased with the shape of the skirt and feel that it is very flattering to the figure.

Patterning my Funnelweb Skirt

Here is the process I went through when creating my patterns for my Funnelweb skirt.

I used the skirt blocks to create these patterns.

In order to create my patterns I needed to make a few adaptations to the skirt block.

The first adaptation that I made was to extend it to make the skirt floor length.

I then added 1inch to each side of the skirt apart from the centre front to make the skirt slightly flare at the bottom.

I then created a panel at the bottom of the skirt.

I then used the measurements from the mannequin to create my waistband.

This is my patterns done for now.
